Rivermuse (core) is an open source event management platform that has been gathering a lot of attention primarily since it has been founded by the original founders of Micromuse and promises an open source alternative to Netcool.

We've just released in the RapidOSS plugin for Rivermuse. This first version of the plugin provides seamless bi-directional integration between RapidOSS and Rivermuse, bringing alerts from Rivermuse into RapidOSS and forwarding user actions from RapidOSS to Rivermuse.

Rivermuse uses a highly optimized MySql database rather than proprietary in-memory database (as it is in Netcool). As a result, it is able to store (and keep) all "events" in the data store and rules are used to create "alerts" from events. RapidOSS stores Rivermuse alerts in RapidOSS repository (as fully searchable indexes) and allows users to access related events on-demand through the RapidOSS UI which is optimized to work with very high number of events without causing problems in the browser.

RapidOSS can now be used as the operations management console for both Netcool and Rivermuse, as well as other management tools (ticketing, configuration mgmt, etc.) and data sources, providing a smooth migration path for people who may want to start using Rivermuse but cannot yet migrate off from their existing solutions.

Naturally, this also means users can access to Rivermuse from their mobile devices through RapidOSS interface for mobile devices, and use RapidOSS powerful self-service notifications capabilities to get notified for selected events, etc.

The plugin is available for download on our website. Plugin documentation is on our development site.
